1 - OPENFIP module: interoperability between FIP via OPC UA TSN and other devices

FIP is a real-time and deterministic network (IEC 61158), it is extremely resistant in difficult environments for the exchange of critical data. Our customers want to be able to communicate with the FIP network and other current and future networks/equipment, while maintaining the advantages of FIP: determinism, real time, robustness.

OPC UA TSN (IEC 62541) is the building block that opens up the FIP network to current equipment. OPC UA TSN is supported by all major automation vendors.

OPC UA provides methods for direct interaction with devices. A machine can interrogate other machines to know the services, the interfaces and the means that they provide. Machines can thus interact more efficiently and autonomously.

The determinism of TSN enables OPC UA machine-to-machine communication and therefore better synchronization of equipment in a multi-vendor environment.

The main advantages of OPC UA TSN are openness, homogeneity of semantics, security and performance. The gain in performance is due to several factors including high bandwidth and guaranteed real-time communication. Combining OPC UA with TSN's mechanisms for real-time field-level communication enables a single, vendor-neutral network and protocol at all stages, from sensor to cloud. OPC UA over TSN is 100% open, ultra-fast and secure.

2 - OPENFIP: an open code to open the FIP network to other equipment on the market

The OPENFIP module (UAFIP) is an "open source" gateway written in C for the GNU/Linux operating systems.

3 - Deterministic and real-time exchange

4 - Installation

.

The module is installed on standard equipment on the market which is equipped with the Intel i210 Ethernet controller component. The equipment must accommodate a PowerFIP card, many PowerFIP card formats are available on our site; PCIe, mPCIe, PXIe... The OPENFIP module is included in the package supplied with PowerFIP cards.

The customer can integrate the OpenFIP module himself with a PowerFIP card in his equipment or buy the UNO 2372G equipped with a PowerFIP card, or embedded system EN50155 (contact us).

Exoligent provides technical support for the installation or integration of the module, the customer must create a configuration file for exchanges between FIP and OPC UA TSN. A complete installation example of the OPENFIP module (UAFIP) is presented on our wiki.

5 - Prerequisite
